Our Artes
and Crafts Grilles on the Big Screen
We were flattered to find that Steiner Studios chose six of our
06x24 Artes and Crafts grilles in the production of "The Nanny
Diaries", starring Scarlett Johansson as the Nanny. Our grilles
added authenticity and an attention to detail to the production.
They also helped to paint a picture of the "old money wealth and
sophistication" of the house and family. Of course these grilles
project that same image even when they aren't in the movies. Artes

Neo-Classical
Revival?
It seems that Classical has been making a slow comeback over the
last 15 years or so. Classical interior design for the foyer and
the formal rooms goes with the traditional styles favored in new
construction. At first, the Classical revival began to appear
in the Tuscan style, the most minimalist of the Classical orders.
But now the higher, more ornate orders of Classical architecture
and interior design are appearing more and more frequently.
Classical is an enduring style which is the epitome of all that
has preceded it. Classical has as many names as it has had revivals.
Throughout the history of Classical architecture, which began
with the Greeks and Romans, it has been called many names: Classical,
Italian Renaissance, Italianate, Greek Revival, Federal, Colonial,
Adam, Georgian, Rococo, Baroque, Neo-Classical and Beaux Arts
just to name a few. Each time Classical was revised it had some
different look in ornamentation but retained the strict sense
of order and symmetry of classical architecture.
The style of architecture during the Reign of Louis XVI and Marie
Antoinette was Neo-Classical. Using all the interior design magazines
as indications of trends in interior design, we predict a revival
in Neo-Classical. This movie may just accelerate this trend.

Ever notice how horror movies always feature old Victorian houses?
We always admired "The Addams Family" house, which was a Second
Empire Mansion complete with a mansard roof, tower and ornamental
iron work. So it was not a stretch for NS Pictures to use Beaux-Artes
grilles in their hit TV show "Supernatural". Evil forces waft
through various Beaux-Artes grilles as smoke in the show. We think
it is brilliant cinematography and visually chilling. In addition,
episode 6 "No Exit", airing November 2nd, features our Italian
Renaissance grilles, with sinister fingers protruding through.

Bob Vila's "On The Level" Blog mentions how many of Beaux-Artes
HVAC Grilles can also be used as Speaker Grilles.
Interestingly enough, Bob Vila's staff selected the same Grille
as the "Supernatural" staff. Simply turn the Grille sideways and
voilà — you have a beautiful and elegant Speaker

Beaux-Artes featured in "The House That Faux Built"
Here we present the book of "The House That Faux Built" project.
Beaux-Artes was a sponsor, donating our products alongside
paints, plasters, stencils and the imagination of over 100 artists,
artisans, designers and volunteers. Proceeds from ticket sales
went to Habitat For Humanity to build a house in New Orleans.
