Filter grilles are just return grilles with a disposable filter that must be replaced when dirty. This means that a filter grille has to open and close, plus hold a filter. Unfortunately, with most filter grilles, you can see the pink, white or blue filter through the louvers. Which is not a pretty sight. However, our grilles come with black fiberglass mesh, when placed over the filter, creates a nice black background behind our grilles. After World War II, American industry decided to stop making decorative grilles in favor of louvered type grilles. Perhaps because they are cheaper and easier to make. Unfortunately, louvered grilles are unattractive and look out of place in the traditional style homes of today. We know that Beaux-Artes' grilles are not for everyone.
